I have received the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Jesus, the eyes of my understanding being enlightened - Ephesians 1:17-18
Have you ever felt confused? Have you ever questioned why or wrestled with what steps to take? Have you ever wondered where God is in those answers?
I think every one of us has found ourselves in this place. Crying out for understanding, clarity, direction.
This scripture in Ephesians 1:17-18 reminds us that understanding, clarity, and direction stem directly from the author and giver of our lives, Jesus Christ. It is a prayer for you and me that we might know Jesus fully and in him, discover all we need. This is a process and without immediate results. I think we would prefer that someone just tell us plainly what to do or give us a direct and clear answer to our nagging questions. But God, in his infinite ways, desires our complete reliance and trust in him. He longs for our daily communion with him. He reminds us that He is enough for us.
I love how the message version puts it;
"I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for his followers, oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!”
When we develop a close, personal relationship with Christ; we see differently. Proximity has a great effect on us. The closer we become to someone the more we think like, act like and become like them. The same applies to our relationship with Christ.
As we declare this promise of wisdom, revelation and understanding over our lives, let us commit to fix our eyes on Jesus. Make it a priority to spend time with him each day. Ask him those nagging questions and rehearse your trust that He has the answers. I love the scripture in Proverbs 3:5 that says "trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your understanding...in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path."
And while you are leaning in, trusting, growing in understanding and aligning your path with His, He will give you endless energy and strength for the process!
