How often does our identity get clouded by what has happened in the past? We use past events as predictors of the future because in our limited thinking that is what we know. God is reminding us in this verse to take our expectation and our thinking to a new level. When we are in Christ, as his followers, we can release the past. It is like a hand already gripping something, there is no more room to receive what is being offered. By releasing the past we let go of what once was to make room to receive the increase and abundance God has for us in the future. If he can forgive you and erase your sins of the past, the least you can do is let them go. Your future is too big and carries too much impact for you to be hindered and weighed down by what is past. God is calling each of us to claim our newness that is in Him. It is a fresh start we can claim every morning so we can bring our very best to the challenges and opportunities He brings us now. Like a pair of new clothes can give you new confidence, put on your newness of identity daily and walk confident that God has placed you in this time and place for a reason. You have everything it takes!
